Common questions

What volume should I use?

Just barely audible, quieter than feels natural. Louder is not more effective, and long sessions at high volume can harm your hearing. The app includes a guided calibration on your first session, and you can re-run it anytime from Settings → Calibrate Volume.

Do I need headphones?

Yes, for all three therapies. Good-quality headphones or earbuds matter because the therapies are tuned to your specific tinnitus frequency. If you use AirPods Pro, turn off any hearing-aid or media-adjustment features in Settings → Accessibility → Audio/Visual so the therapy tones aren't altered.

My pitch match doesn't feel right.

Pitch matching takes a couple of tries for most people. Find a quiet room, take your time on the sweep, and pay attention to the octave check at the end. Matching an octave off is the most common mistake. You can re-match anytime in Settings → Re-match Active Pitch; your history is kept.

How long until I notice anything?

The research protocols behind these therapies run for weeks to months, and results vary between individuals. Rate your tinnitus loudness daily in the app; the trend over weeks means far more than any single day.

Does my health data go anywhere?

No. Modulate has no server, no account, and no analytics. Everything stays on your device. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

How do I back up or export my data?

Settings → Export All Data creates a JSON file of your sessions and assessments that you can save anywhere via the share sheet. Progress → the share icon exports a PDF report designed for your audiologist. Your data is also included in your normal iPhone backup.

How do refunds work?

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund for Modulate. Apple makes the decision, usually within a day or two.

Something's broken.

Email hello@bnzindustries.com with your iPhone model, iOS version, and what happened. Screenshots help. Because the app collects no analytics, your report is genuinely how we find out, and it gets read by the developer, not a ticket queue.

Safety

Modulate is a general wellness app, not a medical device, and it doesn't replace professional care. If you experience sudden hearing loss, sudden changes in your tinnitus, dizziness, or ear pain, stop use and seek medical attention promptly.
