Modulate

Sound therapy for tinnitus, done honestly.

Three evidence-informed listening therapies, a guided pitch matcher, and progress tracking you can hand to your audiologist, all in a warm, quiet app designed to be lived with for hours a day.

Coming soon to the App Store $17.99, once. No subscription. No account.

Modulate's therapy screen with a session timer, a warm amber play button ringed by a daily goal indicator, and CR Neuro, Notched, and Ripple therapy modes.

Three therapies

Built on published research, not promises.

Each mode implements an approach studied in peer-reviewed literature. Research on sound therapy is genuinely encouraging and genuinely unfinished, so we cite it rather than oversell it.

Notched Sound

Noise with your frequency removed.

Comfortable background noise with a one-octave notch centered on your tinnitus pitch. Research suggests the surrounding neural activity may inhibit the notched frequency over time.

Okamoto et al., PNAS (2010) · Stein et al., BMC Neurology (2016)

Spectral Ripple

Constantly decorrelated sound.

Broadband sound whose frequency bands shift independently, designed to break the cross-frequency coupling associated with the tinnitus percept. Suited to high-frequency tinnitus.

Yukhnovich et al., Hearing Research (2025)

How it works

Find your pitch. Listen daily. Watch the trend.

Match your tinnitus

A guided frequency sweep narrows in on your exact pitch in a few minutes, including an octave double-check for the classic matching mistake. AirPods Pro audiogram data can pre-seed the search.

Make it a habit

Daily reminders, session streaks, a goal ring, and a lock-screen Live Activity keep multi-hour listening sessions on track. A guided volume step sets the clinically correct "just barely audible" level.

See your own evidence

Daily loudness ratings, the standardized THI questionnaire, and usage charts show your trend over weeks, exportable as a PDF report for your audiologist.

What to expect

We'd rather be honest than convincing.

Sound therapy is gradual. The research protocols behind these approaches run for weeks to months, and results vary between individuals: some improve meaningfully, some modestly, some not at all.

What Modulate promises is the honest version: correctly implemented therapies, tools that make daily consistency achievable, and measurements so you can see whether it's working for you.
